Spanish Model 93 Mauser 7x57 Part 6: Shaping Trigger Guard, Finishing Chamber

1 of 3

Before Shaping the Trigger Guard
The original trigger guard was pretty rough (and pretty square) so I decided to do some work on it.

As you can see, the trigger guard was pretty rough. I decided that removing some of the dings couldn't hurt, plus I wanted to round off some sharp edges and streamline it a little.

I'd been reading and perusing some of my gunsmithing books, and one of the things I'd noted was that it can be pretty easy to improve the look of an old military rag just by filing and otherwise re-shaping things. The trigger guard was a natural fit for this treatment, so I decided to go for it.

As you can tell by the photo, the original trigger guard wasn't attractive worth a hoot. Oh, it did its job well enough, but it surely could have looked better while doing it. And there's not much I like less on a gun than sharp edges, so some rounding was certainly in order. I grabbed some files and set to work.
