Guide Rating -
Pros  •  Excellent reading for all ages.
•  Bristles with great philosophy...
•  Loaded with good stories, too!
Cons  •  The only con I can think of is slight repetition.
The Bottom Line - The best I've ever read on hunting and fishing. Great reading for young and old, hunter and non-hunter, fisherman and couch potato.

Guide Review

A Timeless Classic of Hunting and Fishing Lore
Yes, I know the phrase "timeless classic" has been used to describe everything from raggedy old cars to soda pop, but it definitely applies here. This book is simply the best I've ever read on hunting.

Where the beginner finds a great example to guide his outdoor experiences, the jaded hunter of many years will see all his hard-earned lessons spelled out in simple, down-to-earth, entertaining language that will have him wondering why the heck he didn't read this book decades ago. I've re-read my copy many times and will again. Ruark's recounting of his grandfather's wisdom is perfect, his description of the old gentleman is achingly familiar. Buy this book -- you won't be disappointed. When you're done, pick up The Old Man's Boy Grows Older.
