Everyone needs to get away sometime... if only to relax & regroup. Vacations are necessary to rest up, whether they're spent at home relaxing, in the woods hunting, or fishing & shooting in Georgia, USA. So, for those of you who wondered where the heck Russ went last week, this is a brief rundown of my vacation.

Most of Saturday was spent driving to our destination, in central Georgia -- 800 acres of hunting land owned by a corporation of which my good friend Richard Daniel is a member. The land also fronts a huge man-made lake named Sinclair, which is essentially a dammed-up portion of the Oconee River. Our mission: to enjoy ourselves for six days. Mission accomplished!

Of course, being a highly professional and dedicated About.com Guide, I took my trusty notebook computer along on the trip... but alas, no phone connection was available for me to get online to check Email, keep tabs on the forum, or update the site. That turned out to be a mixed blessing, as I would have liked to stay in contact with all of you fine folks, but it did do me some good to get away from the daily "grind."

Four happily bloated outdoorsmen

Here's a shot of all of us... from left to right: Homer Chastain (my Dad); Myself; Ken Daniel; and Richard Daniel. This was taken just after we accomplished the successful demolition of a fine breakfast on our first morning in camp, as you could possibly tell from our rather sated appearance.

Where the heck are your helmets, guys?

After breakfast, young Barrett (son of a friend) took Richard for a nice docile ride on his four-wheeler -- Richard's four-wheeler, that is. Note the downcast expression on Barrett's face...

Our main stated goal, other than relaxing and having fun, was to catch some fish. During the course of the week, I did take advantage of the shooting range we'd built on the property, to try out some handloads for a couple of my rifles, and one of Richard's. But initially, a-fishing we went... below are pics of some fish we had fun catching, and released.

Russ and his first fish of the tripRichard with a sardine, I mean catfish.

That's me on the left with a little bluegill (I know it's hard to see the fish!), and Richard on the right with a catfish. Ken (The Fish Wrangler) shows off a catfish of his own, below. We didn't take many pics of the big 'uns, but I couldn't resist getting photos of these twerps.

We did catch some fish worth eating, too. See Page Two for more...
