Another Olympic Shooting Medal for the USA
Gold went to Chiara Cainero, who hit the first two targets of the shoot-off, while Kim and Christine Brinker of Germany each missed one. Kim prevailed over Brinker, who won Bronze.
China is leading the pack with the shooting this year, having already won seven medals in Shooting. The USA is currently in a three-way tie with the Czech Republic and Italy, each with three.
In Women's 50m 3-Position Rifle, China's Du Li took the top spot with an Olympic record of 690.3, redeeming herself after a disappointing performance in the Games' first event (Women's Air Rifle), when she placed fifth. Katerina Emmons, ever a fierce competitor, won Silver for the Czech Republic. Bronze went to Eglis Yaima Cruz of Cuba.
USA's shooters didn't grab any medals in that event, but Jamie Beyerle didn't miss it by a whole lot, as she placed fifth. Fellow American Sandra Fong placed 21st.
Germany's Sonja Pfeilschifter, a favorite going into this competition, placed 17th.
In Women's 25m Air Pistol, China's Chen Ying won the Gold, Otryad Gundegmaa of Mongolia took Silver, and Munkhbayar Dorjsuren won Bronze for Germany. The USA's closest competitor in this event was Libby Callahan (the oldest woman competing at the Olympics), who placed 25th. Beki Snyder, also of the USA, placed 28th.

I am glad you are covering these events, because I can’t seem to catch them on TV. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Christian, glad to hear it.
I share your frustration in trying to see some of it on TV. I caught the tail end of the Men’s Trap finals real early on, and haven’t found anything since, though I keep scouring the Olympic channels on DirecTV to record on the ol’ DVR.
