The Bottom Line

The stock is good and durable, but needs more drop. The shell holder is also tough, but holds shells too tightly. Both were easy to install, the method of installation is solid, and quality is good. I have to advise against ATI's Heatshield With Ghost Ring Sights, though. To me, it's impractical, of medium quality and poor design, and will almost certainly damage your gun's finish if installed. It's hard to believe it came from the same company that made the other two products.

Pros
  • Installed easily on the test gun (New Haven by Mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun).
  • Length is easily adjustable.
  • Lifetime Warranty, made in USA.
  • Shell holder installed easily in pre-existing holes with provided screws.
  • Seems to be very sturdy.
Cons
  • Stock is way too high to use with factory rifle sights on the test gun (not enough drop).
  • Shell holder holds shells too tightly. (This can be adjusted - with a hacksaw. I didn't try.)

Description

  • Telescoping collapsible tactical butt stock with sling loop, sling stud, and buttpad.
  • Shell holder is designed to be used on this stock, made of elastomeric polymer.
  • Stock operates like many tactical stocks in the market - just press a lever and adjust.
  • Stock is made of black glass-filled nylon, said to be scratchproof and weatherproof.

Guide Review - ATI Tactical Stock With Buttpad and 12ga Shotgun Tactical Shell Holder

This stock is of good quality and was easily installed on the Mossberg shotgun I tested it on. It adjusts quickly and easily for length (mine has almost four inches of travel), and the longest setting is good for tall guys like myself. But it has no drop! There's no way I can use the sights on the test gun, and it has rifle sights. You'd never have a prayer using a shotgun with a bead.

Incidentally, I received a Deluxe Heatshield With Ghost Ring Sights from ATI also, but I didn't install it. It does put the sights up at a good height for the stock, but the heatshield installs using only a friction fit on the outside of the gun barrel at the rear (clamp it with a couple bolts at the front), and features plastic non-adjustable sights that wiggle around when you grab 'em. I didn't want to scar up the test gun, and the design and quality of this product is just too low for me consider using it.

The tactical shell holder installed easily. Just screw an adapter to the stock, and then screw the shell holder to the adapter. All holes are pre-molded, just grab a phillips screwdriver and put it on.

Unfortunately, it holds the shells so tightly that I almost can't get them out. You see in the photo that I alternated the shells, one up, one down. The reason? That's the only way you have a prayer of removing them when they're needed. The instructions say you can adjust tension with a hacksaw (I ain't kidding), but I didn't try that.

All in all, the stock is good and durable, but needs more drop. The shell holder is also tough, but holds shells too tightly. Both were easy to install, the method of installation is pretty solid, and quality is good. I have to advise against ATI's Heatshield With Ghost Ring Sights, though. To me, it's impractical, of poor quality, and will almost certainly damage your gun's finish if installed.
