Another Army Man:
Like Jason Parker, Michael "Mike" Anti a portrait of one version of the American dream: He's in the US Army, is a member of the US Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), is married with children, and he gets to shoot guns for a living. What a way to make a buck. That kind of thing could make a feller jealous!Oops!:
In the 2004 Olympics, Mike's fellow USA rifle shooter Matt Emmons got a lot of press when he goofed and shot the wrong target, losing a commanding lead and thus the Gold medal (he placed 8th). Mike's own Gold-losing mistake in that event flew under the radar: he fired one too many rounds and was penalized, lost his lead and earned Silver instead of Gold. Some days, you just can't win, and that was the sort of day it was for the Men's Team USA at the 3 Position Rifle event in 2004. Emmons and Anti both qualified for that event again in 2008. With any kind of luck at all, they'll both bring home medals this time.
Loads of Experience:
Born in 1964, Mike has been shooting competitively for decades. He shot in the World Championships in 1982, and since then he has competed at many national and international shooting events, including the Olympics in 1992, 2004, and 2008. His victories include several Gold and Silver medals he's earned along the way.Mike placed 9th in the Men's 50m Rifle Prone event in Beijing in 2008. Fellow American Matt Emmons won Silver in that event.
