An Experienced Shooter:
As of summer 2008, Elizabeth "Libby" Callahan is the oldest American woman to compete at the Olympic Games. This includes all female competitors, in all events. At 56, she will compete in women's pistol shooting. Her experience is quite impressive. After learning to shoot while with the Washington, D.C. Police Force (retired in 2003), Libby became a five-time champion at women's police revolver shooting, and has been women's police service revolver champion four times.
Olympic Veteran:
Libby has competed at the Olympic games in 1992, 1996, 2004, and again in 2008. While she hadn't earned an Olympic medal at earlier games, 2008 once again gave her the chance to show what her experience has taught her in the nearly three decades that she has been shooting handguns. As the oldest member of the USA's Olympic team in both 2004 and 2008, Libby may feel she has something to prove. Although her previous highest Olympic shooting record was 19th place (2004, Sport Pistol), Libby continued to improve her Olympic scores, and continued to do well in US National competitions leading up to the 2008 Games.
