12 Gauge Trailer Hitch Plug Receiver Cover

About.com Rating five out of Five

By Russ Chastain, About.com

The Bottom Line

This Hitch Plug is well-made and looks good on my truck. It's not the most practical item, but makes a nice gift when you don't know what to get for a hunter or shooter in the family. It's also a pretty cool way to cover your hitch's receiver. There are more useful goodies you can buy for $25, but if you're looking to turn some heads and advertise your love for hunting and for shootin' irons, this is a pretty cool way to do it -- and the quality is good, too.
Pros
  • Solid metal (brushed aluminum disk with steel brackets) makes it sturdy.
  • Includes all mounting hardware for 2" and 1 1/4" receivers.
  • Assembly is fast and easy - I had mine on my truck within minutes of opening the package.
  • Looks great on my truck, makes me smile every time I look at it.
Cons
  • Made in China.

Guide Review - 12 Gauge Trailer Hitch Plug Receiver Cover

This receiver Hitch Plug is well-made and looks good on my truck. It's not the most practical item in the world, but for the hunter or shooter that has everything else, this makes a nice gift. It's also a pretty cool way to cover your hitch's receiver.

Non-hunters often don't know just what to buy for a hunter when gift-giving time rolls around. Something to do with hunting? They don't have a clue what that would be, and if they do pick out some kind of gear, who's to say the hunter doesn't already have one or two - or that it's even right for his kind of hunting? It's not likely that many hunters have a collection of these jewels lying around the house.

Two angled steel brackets screw to the back of the machined aluminum disk, with provided screws. Two brackets are included for 2" receivers, and two for 1 1/4" models. They attach securely with 4 screws, and my package even contained an extra screw.

I'm not gonna kid you - there are more useful goodies you can buy for $25 or so. But if you're looking to turn some heads and advertise your love for hunting and shootin' irons, this is a pretty cool way to do it -- and with good quality, too.
