USA's rifle team did well in the 1912 Team Rifle event, winning gold and showing that American marksmanship was alive and well, even in that time of less-organized shooting teams.

The USA didn't have a year-round shooting team until 1979. Until then, shooters trained on their own and got together for qualifying rounds when it was time for big events like the Olympics and World Championships. Afterward, they went their separate ways.

in 1979, training became more organized with the establishment of both National Teams and National Development Teams and year-round training programs, along with a central training site for Olympic shooting. It wasn't until 1995 that the present-day USA Shooting was born, becoming the full-time National Governing Body for international shooting sports in the United States of America.
