Field-Stripping an AK-47 Rifle (and Variants)

Remove Bolt From Carrier

Removing bolt from carrier on AK-47 rifle.
Removing bolt from carrier. The tapered lug is now clear of the groove in the carrier, and it is ready to move forward (left in the photo), out of the carrier.
Turn the bolt carrier assembly upside-down. Slide the bolt rearward in the carrier. It will rotate and when the tapered bolt lug is aligned with the slot in the receiver, turn the bolt so the lug clears the slot, and slide it forward and out of the carrier.
  1. Unload the Gun
  2. Remove Receiver Cover
  3. Remove Recoil/Return Spring
  4. Remove Bolt Carrier Assembly
  5. Remove Bolt From Carrier
  6. Remove Gas Tube With Top Hand Guard
  7. Remove Cleaning Rod
  8. Remove Safety/Selector Lever (if Desired)
  9. Remove Lower Handguard/Forend
