After the barrel band has been removed, make sure you have good control of the gun, and pull the bolt handle backwards to lock the action open. Now that it's open, you can lift the barrel and action out of the stock. Look at the picture, and notice how the gun hinges at the rear of the receiver.

Simply rotate it upward until it comes free of the recoil block, which is the black aluminum piece which will remain attached to the stock.

Be careful not to lose any of the cross pins from the receiver. Sometimes they will have a loose fit, and may want to fall out. This isn't a defect - when the gun is assembled, the inside surfaces of the stock keep all of the pins in place.

Now you've done all of the disassembly that you normally need to do. Take the time to inspect the gas cylinder and piston, to see if further disassembly is required. This is covered in the next step.

If everything looks good, clean out the crud, remove the powder fouling from around the gas cylinder, piston, magazine tube, front end of the slide, the bottom of the barrel, and the action spring. Wipe it all down with a light coat of oil, and put it back together.

Reassembly tips will appear later in this article.
