My Latest Assignment

Well, here I am again.

I write this in my new camp trailer (parked in my mulch driveway, next to the firewood rack), which I intend to use as a hunt camp in various locations of the southeast USA during the 2001-2002 hunting season and beyond. I am sitting on a cushion, the cover for which I sewed with my older-than-I-am Kenmore sewing machine last week. The roof over my head has been re-framed and re-sealed by yours truly within the past couple of weeks. I feel good -- and I need to load some more ammo for hunting season (who doesn't?).

In recent weeks, I have been featuring articles by other authors on this web site. I've received little to no feedback from readers on this practice, and so have no way of knowing whether or not you have been enjoying this. To tell you the truth (and don't I always?), I have been working to prepare this site for a transition which may well never occur. It looks as if this site will not, in fact, be commandeered by a well-respected shooting magazine, after all. It looks as if I will remain at the helm from now on, alone and unfettered, to provide you with what you need to know. All in favor?

Many of you may have read news accounts of late, some perhaps accurate and some definitely erroneous, covering recent changes at About. Well, here's the bottom line: I am still here. The lion's share of the Guides and Guidesites you have come to know and trust are still here. And our newest challenge is as follows: Provide you with what you need to know.

A weighty challenge, to be sure, but I'm certain that we're up to it.

So I will still be running this show, and as I hope I've proven through my years here at About, you can trust me to tell it as I see it, with little or no fanfare. I guess it's true what they say (and as the band Rush sang back in 1978) - the more that things change, the more they stay the same.
