My wife ran across a post about this on the slickdeals website... seems worthwhile. So if you know a teacher in the St. Louis area, you might want to share this with 'em.
The Saint Louis Association of Firearms Training Instructors (S.A.F.T.I.) is offering firearms training to teachers for very low cost. Here's some info from a news article about this:
"Instructor Michael Meyer said the offer is good for any certified teacher in the St. Louis area or from outstate Missouri.
"Meyer said those who take part must pay the range fees, but the class will be free. He said range fees typically run about $15... classes for a concealed carry permit generally run from $80 to $150."
The hanging point is that school districts don't currently allow teachers the opportunity to defend themselves, believing that creating gun-free "unarmed victim zones" is good for safety, when in reality it simply guarantees mass murderers that no one in a school will be able to effectively resist them.
But getting training and carrying concealed is always a good idea - and if the school administrators see the light, teachers who have done so will be ready to exercise their rights in the classroom, exhibiting a real ability to protect their students.
