When it comes to shooting deer, one thing matters more than anything else, and that's where you hit the critter. I have made some great shots and I have made some poor shots, but every deer that I've hit has come home with me. While I don't buy into the school of thought that touts precisely-placed itty-bitty bullets, placement is definitely very important. At the same time, remember that a poor hit with a big bullet offers a much greater chance of success than a poor hit with a tiny one, and we all make poor hits sometimes - but that's another subject.
