Ruger's original 44 carbine was a handy little semi-automatic jewel, simply excellent for close-range hunting. It could hit game like a freight train without kicking like a mule. Heck, I started hunting with one when I was thirteen years old, and it was all I used for twenty years. But Ruger stopped building them in the mid-1980s, and some of them are getting a bit long in the tooth. Heck, mine is almost 50 years old now, so it's no wonder that many of these guns are in need of some TLC.
