Well, some good and some bad came out of tonight's Top Shot.
The good? The red team got it together and won the team challenge. The bad? Jake continued to browbeat fellow contestants and run his filthy mouth - not to mention it was his "leadership" that failed to win the challenge - and the only person who had the guts to vote for him was sent to elimination, and then sent home.
What can I say? It was bittersweet.
Highlights:
- Blue team's ridiculous re-enactment of the previous team challenge. Really? As if it is going to be repeated? As if pretending to carry a log and fire with a golf club will hone your skills? Give me a break.
- At the same time, we get red team Michael's commentary, during which he says, "We are watching them make a fool of themselves." Um, Mike... you just did it to yourself, dude.
- Instructor Craig "Sawman" Sawyer, who shares the title of "former Navy Seal" with Jake, classified Jake's leadership of his team as yelling more, and organizing less.
- The discussion of how someone who didn't own an AK-47 could shoot it well. Duh! For the most part, a rifle is a rifle is a rifle - line up the sights and fire it. These people are supposed to be experts, yet they continue to act as if shooting experience doesn't translate from one firearm to another.
- At the team challenge, it came down to the final stage. Red team's Chris vs. blue team's Jake. Chris hit both of his targets before Jake hit any. Hee hee!
- Afterward, back at the house, Jake cussed a blue streak of bleeps across my television screen, evaporating any respect I may have felt for him.
- Blue team caves to Jake's suggestion and votes Sara into elimination. Wimps! She was the only woman left - and ironically, the only shooter with balls enough to vote for Jake.
- Dustin, the only shooter without much formal training, joined Sara in elimination - and smoked her. She was just terribly outclassed. She hit 11 "foe" targets, while he hit 1 "friendly" and 24 "foe" targets.
And, drum roll please - it was Sara's birthday. Ouch.

I was shocked how a self-taught shooter could so thoroughly trounce a former SWAT team member and long time police officer in a friend and foe challenge. That must have been embarrassing!
That’s for sure. Just goes to show that training isn’t everything – especially when it comes to police (who sometimes think they’re special, but often aren’t). I think it has more to do with personal discipline, dedication, and practicing regularly.
What was really lame was Sara blamed it on the “Pressure” of the competition.
Great, Sara admittedly choked under the pressure of shooting at light bulbs.
What frightens me is that she faces far more dangerous and pressure filled life and death situations.
So I guess she would choke as well, when the pressure is really high and life is on the line.
That is the most frightening cop of all. A poor shot who panics under pressure. The kind who unloads a clip as fast as possible but is lucky to land one hit.
Drop the gung ho attitude Sara, you are a frightening example of the type of police people fear the most. An ego bigger than your skills, and the inability to properly control your emotions in high pressure situations.
Sara you should be ashamed of yourself. Not for your shooting but your lack of professionalism that was displayed by your less than graceful choke and excuses.
