I've had this crossbow for a little more than a year now, and I like it. It's not the top of the line, but it does the job and costs a lot less than many crossbows on the market today. I used it to sling arrows at two deer last year, and both of those critters came home with me, so I'm sure not complaining.

Super article on your crossbow. I have shot a 175 Horton Lgend since Georgia legalized them in 2003. I use a BSA red dot scope and 100 grain mechanical broadheads on Horton 2219 bolts. Also have the silencer system on the bow. I love to go into our local 20yd. indoor range and shoot 2 bullseyes and say “I guess I’m ready” while the compound guys are there all day tweeking 10 different things to get it right.
I followed all the tech. info. except……..”how did you decide that 27 yds. was you max. effective range? And I guess you are using 125 grain broadheads because that is what Barnett recommends? Mine is a little lighter than yours so it all flies flatter and farther to my max. effective range of 35 and I have 25lbs more pull but I guess I give up energy on impact that you have.
All I know is that it works like a charm. Sure glad I’m not buying my unit today, price is nearly twice 2003!!!! Good luck Sept. 11. BTW, opening day for doves is Sept. 4th at our hunting camp. I think I’ll start some tech. talk on the forum about dove shooting.
“How did you decide that 27 yds. was your max. effective range?”
Trial and error. I’d zero the sight at a given yardage, then shoot it at closer and farther range. If the point of impact varied too much from the point of aim, I’d adjust. I finally got the sight hitting real close to point of aim at a particular distance, then tried at all the ranges in between, and it did well. So I measured the distance to the first target, and found that it was 27 yards.
I tried zeroing at longer range, but then point of impact varied too much at closer ranges (I’d hit high in the middle ranges).
But all that was a year ago. I need to get the ol’ xbow back out and do some more shooting with it before the season arrives.
Barnett rates this bow as 150-lb pull, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually weighs less. Maybe I’ll see if the archery shop can weigh it for me.
I’m using 100 grain rage 2-blade expandable broadheads. They didn’t have 125s last year when I was buying broadheads. I’ll probably stay with them because they “done me good” last year.
Good luck with the doves – I hope to do okay myself. See you in the forum.
