Home Invasion Turns Into Rapid Retreat

Thursday February 19, 2009
There is nothing - nothing! - more effective for discouraging criminals than a "victim" who shoots back. Picture this... you're minding your own business in your subdivision home. Some events of the past have led you to install some security cameras to cover the front of the house.

One day, a car lurches into the driveway, and punks pour out. Not harmless jackassy punks with colored hair and too many piercings, but dangerous punks who carry guns. They swarm into the open garage, into your home. As they cross the garage floor, one of them fires a shot.

What do you do? Run for cover? Hide under the bed? Grab a baseball bat? Dial 911?

This homeowner did none of that. Instead, he shot back, and they scattered like flies disturbed at a meal.

I sure am glad he had a gun, was able to get it when he needed it, and knew how to use it effectively.

What do you think? Comments are welcome, both here and in the forum (which is where the link will take you).

(1) George LaMontagne says:

Urban dreg hunter thugs will eventually smarten up and hunt where the deer are, your suburb and your house.

Will you be ready, like this homeowner was?
I recommend 12 gauge readiness with #4 shot, the neighbors might object to high velocity bullets.

(2) L S McGinnis says:

I believe that had this citizen not had a firearm to protect themselve, this story may have ended in a very different way. Obviously, since a round was fired in the garage the intruders were prepared to use the weapons they had. Since not a single innocent person was injured physically; this incedent turned out great!!

(3) James "Black Bear" Mann says:

A bad experience as a kid keeps us from having guns in our house but I think I could disarm a couple of guys with guns using my fly rod. :)

Seriously though, I am glad they were able to defend themselves.

I tend not to trust people and don’t like people coming on my property I don’t know so when I hear a vehicle approaching I grab the phone. It only takes the press of one button to call 911. So if you plan to visit me you better call first.
