A Gun Owner's Quandary: McCain or Obama in 2008?
Thursday September 18, 2008
Well, I've been hoping something good would happen with this year's Presidential race. After all, this time last year I finally had a little hope again... in the form of Ron Paul. Now that he has long been out of the 2008 race, we're faced with the two sad offerings presented by the USA's prevalent political parties. Which one is best for gun owners? Or perhaps it is best phrased thusly: Which one would cause us the least damage?

Russ it sounds like you have been sniffing the smoke out of you muzzle loader for to long? McCain just chose as his running mate a life member in the NRA a moose hunting , shooting and eating one. Some other things, don’t you think this election is much bigger than just gun control? We have to have an economy so people can afford to buy guns and go hunting. We have to have a govenment people will respect and trust. So John McCain swears when he gets mad, what do you do dance around and throw flower petals in the air. “Let he who is with out sin cast the first stone.” To say it a tough choice for you between Obama with 143 days of experience, said he would side with Islam if the thinks went wrong from Obamas book. Compared to John MC Cain who put his life on the line for his country as I did. Could sit back on easy street but doesn’t. Makes me question your intelligence, Ron Paul give me a break! Muzzle sniffer!! Jim Z USMC (retired)
I pretty much have to agree with you; I;ve been saying much the same thing for a while now. Ron Paul has a few squirrely ideas too but I could agree with 80% of what he says. Considering all this you ought to check out some of those ’supporting links’ with all the Obama crap for free or for sale.

Russ, I know that our country has some real problems to cope with in the coming years. Granted, Georgie Bush sure has not helped the situation, but I don’t think that Obama’s smooth talking rhetoric is going to send us down to the path of recovery. The one thing that really bothers me about Obama is his ties to the Windy City and Mr. Mayor Daly. I’ll have to go with John McCain based on his service record and the speeches that I have heard him deliver in the past two weeks. He might be a loose cannon, but maybe that’s what we need to shake up Washington.
I live in southern Illinois and the sportsmen are doing our darndest in praying that democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich will get his dues by the FBI and get indicted. Our IDNR has suffered major radical political cuts and 13 of our Historic Sities and State Parks are slated to be closed Nov. 1st.
Thanks, Bob
Thanks guys.
Jim Z: LOL on the muzzle sniffing!
We – meaning we who care about the Second Amendment – have been being warned against McCain for years. Maybe not by NRA, which is a waffling bunch at best, but certainly by GOA.
Check out GOA’s ratings of McCain if you want to see what a friend he is to gun owners.
And no, I don’t think any election is bigger than gun control. Gun ownership by private citizens is the only thing that guarantees every one of our civil rights. Without it, we the people have nothing to stand between us and tyranny.
Scare tactics, you say? Alarmism? Take a look back through history, even at the roots of this nation, and you will see that it can happen to ANY nation, including the good ol’ USA.
Ken, good point on the “Sponsored links” pointing to pro-Obama propaganda. But you will be pleased to note that, at least at this time, the top link there is advertising a free “Obama exposed” report, outlining his massive lack of qualifications for the job of President.
I sure wish I could respect at least one of them, meaning McCain because I have always had zero respect for Obama. But I just can’t.

Obama’s official position on hunting and fishing:
“Hunting and fishing are not just recreational pursuits, they are part of our national heritage. America’s hunters and anglers uphold a tradition that connects generations and brings families and friends together across our great nation. Today, we celebrate this tradition and the conservation legacy of hunters and anglers. “National Hunting and Fishing Day is a time to reaffirm our commitment to America’s sportsmen. As President, I will protect the right to bear arms, increase access to places to hunt and fish, take on polluters and clean up our streams and lakes, and protect our nation’s important wildlife habitat and wetlands. I will enhance programs that encourage young people to hunt and fish and respect and protect the outdoors. “Our nation’s sportsmen have made sure that this and future generations can enjoy our natural resources and wildlife. As President, I will stand with them and ensure that America’s hunting and fishing heritage endures.”
Pure politics. If you believe that Obama believes in hunting and gun ownership, then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona I’d like to sell you…
obama will protect my right own guns and hunt he will also protect the land i hunt and fish on. McCain will will give it to the big oil companies to destroy it and make it useless for hunting and fishing. do you want to vote McCain who will hurt you right to hunt by destroying the land you hunt on. or do you want to vote for obama who will protect the land you hunt on.
ty, I think you’re sorely mistaken, I’m sorry to say.
I’m about ready to forget both of ‘em and vote my consciense, which would be the Constitution Party, and Chuck Baldwin.
If we Americans would grow a pair and vote for what we actually believe in instead of doing what the TV and newspapers tell us, which is to choose the lesser of the two evils, then we could have any President we want – and maybe we’d get a good one that way.
As I look back on my life, I’m not really pleased with the PResidents this nation has had in my lifetime, and it’s always been a question of picking one of two people that I’m uncomfortable with. I’m ready to change that and vote for someone I can actually believe in.
Russ
I defended Obama from what I felt were the clear untruths in this video. I did it because I’m a member of the NRA and I was not pleased they used my hard-earned membership dues to produce stuff like this.
I don’t understand why you folks, AND NRA are not supporting Libertarian Bob Barr. He’s the best friend gun owners have in this 2008 election, plus he’s an NRA board member! Sure he’s a very long shot, but if NRA would endorse him that would do great things for his support at the polls. Besides most people I know don’t like either McCain or Obama and are voting for “the lesser of the two evils”. What a ignorant thing to do… if all those would vote for Barr [who stands for most of the things they really want], he WOULD have a genuine shot at winning.
GOA [Gun Owners of America] strongly opposes McCain and Obama, and supports Barr. If you are a true 2nd amendment person, the choice is clear.
