Breaking in the Benelli SuperNova

Well, the Benelli SuperNova scattergun I recently bought at a Pre-Shot shoot did me pretty well at the range this past weekend. I went with Dad and a friend and threw some clays, and I did a lot more hitting than missing with the Benelli - but I did have to re-teach myself to pump it. I'd been spoiled by autos and over/unders!

I think I hit every double that was thrown, but more than once I missed - multiple times - a single that followed a double. What's up with that?? I could use a bit more drop, but right now I have the max drop the Benelli stock shims will allow. The ComforTech stock did well, but my cheek was a bit sore at the end of the day. All in all, I'm pleased and can't wait to do it again.

I did have some strange experiences cleaning the gun afterward... the inside of the mag tube was slap ate up with rusty oily residue and took a lot of cleaning to get it close to clean. And there was a buildup of crud in the front end of the chamber, which is rough and gathers crud rather than being machined smooth to deny crud a foothold. If it hadn't been for my Kleen-Bore ChamberMate I might never have gotten it clean.
